Black and White Ball
During the last Friday in February, MAGIC holds an annual ball for the youth within the after-school collaboratives of the Fillmore/Western Addition. The youth are given the opportunity to demonstrate what they have learned throughout the year while being able to dress up and have a ball.
Summer Kick-Off
MAGIC's Summer Kick-Off Event, which officially kicks off summer programming for youth programs inside the Mo'MAGIC Collaborative in the Fillmore/Western Addition, brings together more than 500 kids and professionals to mark the beginning of a fantastic summer. Summer Kick-Off introduces students to STEM, art, literacy, and leisure activities while fostering a sense of community across various summer programs.
Summer Learning Day
Coinciding with National Summer Learning Week, MAGIC provides a day for the Fillmore/Western Addition summer programs to explore the FUNdamentals of reading, writing, art, and much more.
National Night Out
National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnership and neighborhood camaraderie. Millions of neighbors, across thousands of communities, take part nation-wide on the first Tuesday in August. The Western Addition National Night Out takes place in the Buchanan Mall, as it provides a safe and great opportunity to bring police and community together in a positive manner.
Halloween Haunted House
Every Halloween Ella Hill Hutch Community Center gets turned into a haunted house for the local community members. This provides a safe space for our youngsters to safely collect candy and gives them the opportunity to build community amongst one another.
Back-to-School Celebration and Backpack Giveaway
MAGIC's Back-to-School Celebration and Backpack Giveaway MAGIC offers children and youth, ages 5-18, new backpacks filled with essential school supplies to celebrate the beginning of the new school year. The event also serves as a community building activity where children, youth and families come together and learn about the various services provide as well as other city agencies.
Holiday Food Box
As a way of giving back to our local community, we partner with local housing sites and other CBOs to set up a list of families that are most in need for the holidays. Thanks to our partnership with Bi-Rite Market, we are able to acquire fresh vegetables and turkeys to distribute amongst more than 700 families.
Holiday Toy Drive
Every year, we host a special Wakanda Winter Wonderland for the local community. We give out free toys, have games, rides, arts and crafts, and food for our young ones to enjoy.
